Finally installed at the April 2021 AGM (after a pandemically-induced delay of 12 months), our President for the current year is Michael Hare.
Michael describes himself as an early medievalist with broad interests ranging from architecture to the wider history, art and culture of the period as a whole, not only in England, but also the wider insular world and the continent. Arriving in Gloucestershire in 1976, he first looked into the early history of St Oswald’s, Gloucester. However, as the photo hints, many members will associate him primarily with the Saxon church (and other sites) at Deerhurst: he has been convenor and editor of the Annual Deerhurst Lecture since 1991. He calculates there are at least another 20 years of research to be conducted on the building. Deerhurst was to have been the focus of the 2020 Presidential Field Trip. With luck, this will now go ahead later in 2021.
