The Library

The Society’s library is an excellent resource of specialist books and periodicals on archaeology, architecture, history, geography and local studies. As well as a unique collection of local materials, there are also good runs of national series and other county society journals. It is housed on the Hardwick campus of the University of Gloucestershire, in Cheltenham – see map below.

Personal visits

Visitors are welcome to examine our collection by arrangement with Louise Hughes, the Hon. Librarian, but to borrow items you must be a member of the Society and have obtained a library card from the University by visiting the library and producing suitable ID. (No charge is made for this.)

You can visit by appointment  and most books (up to a limit of 5 items) may be borrowed by members for up to two months.

The regular library opening hours are:
Monday 1-5pm,
Wednesday 1-5pm
Friday 11-5pm

Reciprocal rights

Reciprocal borrowing rights allow Society members to borrow books from University of Gloucestershire libraries at any campus. See the University’s website for more details. The Library card issued to members also acts a photocopy card. You can add or top up photocopying credit online via this link.
