THE BRISTOL & GLOUCESTERSHIRE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY

ABOUT THE SOCIETY

The Society was established in 1876 and has over 800 members. It promotes the study of the history and antiquities of Bristol and the historic county of Gloucestershire by organising a programme of excursions and lectures. Reports of excavations, research and original historic sources are published in the Transactions and the Gloucestershire Record Series publishes annual volumes of records relating to the county.

The Committee for Archaeology in Gloucestershire (CAG) was founded in 1976 to act as a liaising body for various archaeological interests in the county.

The Society’s Library is located at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham.

Our meetings programme is usually:

Spring and Autumn Meetings, a day visit in May and September

Summer Meeting, a four day trip

Overseas Meeting, a week in Spring or early Summer

Annual General Meeting, Saturday afternoon in March in Bristol or Gloucester; a business meeting with Presidential lecture.

In the winter months, lectures are arranged in Bristol, Gloucester and Cheltenham. Additional visits are organised from Bristol or Gloucester.
