BGAS Library Update
The Bristol & Gloucestershire Archaeological Society (BGAS) and the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) are pleased to announce that agreement has been reached to re-home the BGAS library’s collection of books and journals relating to Bristol, Gloucestershire and adjacent counties at the RAU’s Cirencester campus. The 5,000 items form the core of the BGAS collection, and the volumes will be gifted by the Society’s Trustees to RAU after the BGAS library closes on 1 July 2026.
BGAS and RAU are delighted that this important set of materials relating to the history and archaeology of our region will continue to be available at a convenient central location in Gloucestershire where these resources will remain easily accessible to BGAS members, local students and the public.
Books and journals available for public dispersal
Materials which are not required by other libraries or BGAS members are now being offered to the public.

Anyone wishing to visit the BGAS library to view the available books and journals should contact the Society’s Hon Librarian by e-mail ([email protected]) or telephone (01242 714851) to make an appointment to do so as soon as possible. If you are prepared to make a voluntary donation to the society for these items, please indicate the sum you feel would be appropriate. Applicants will be notified of whether materials they have requested have been allocated by 1 July 2026.
Unfortunately, BGAS will not be able to arrange packing or delivery and it will be applicants’ own responsibility to collect any items they are allocated from the BGAS library at the University of Gloucestershire’s Francis Close Hall campus, Cheltenham by 1 August 2026.
