It is with deep regret that we announce the death of the Society’s website manager, Dr James Hodsdon, who passed away suddenly on 20 January 2022.
James had been a BGAS member for over 25 years and contributed to the Society in so many ways. He was elected as a trustee in 2009, served as Chair of Council from 2018 to 2021 and was General Editor of the Gloucestershire Record Series between 2010 and 2020.
As one of the key players involved in our attempts to modernize BGAS, James played a central role in the Society and was heavily involved in our preparations to celebrate the Society’s 150th anniversary in 2026.
In addition to his devoted service to BGAS, James played a leading role in several other societies in Cheltenham and Gloucester, having been Chair of the Friends of Gloucestershire Archives and, at the time of his death, Chair of the Gloucestershire County History Trust. James will be greatly missed, and we offer our sincere condolences to his wife Judie and their three children
